Captain Australia’s Crime Fighting Journal, Entry#41

Yesterday I went out on patrol, intending also to collect better quality photography for my online journal.  There is a young man who is assisting me in this, his story is interesting – he emailed me last year seeking help for depression and we spoke at length about life & purpose.  Now he is an invaluable ally, helping me with what I think is some excellent quality photography.

Ralph Waldo Emmerson said “The Purpose of Life is to not to be Happy, but to be Useful”, and I think there is a grain of truth to that.  This kid (like many others) felt insignificant in a world where your contribution is not seen, recognised or measured.  Just by noting his value and putting it to good works, I think we’ve turned a corner for him.  The wonderful reversal is that by being useful, you can find happiness.  In any case, I’m grateful for his time and excellent skills as a photographer – which you should see to good effect in the banner images here soon.

The patrol itself was very uneventful.  I did a 5 kilometre circuit through Kangaroo Point and the Southbank parklands, ending at the Southbank Open Air Markets, where you sometimes hear of purse-snatchers and shop-lifters.  I’m pleased to say that I encountered no criminal activity.  Have cobbled together a video below.

The highpoint was meeting a group of about 30 korean kids.  We didnt really catch it on film, although you will see when I walk past them and hand them some calling cards.  After that, they were all gathering around me, bowing, shaking hands, asking about my mission and my super powers.  It pleases me to think that I might be an encounter of note in a young life, and that by words that I say, might spread a strong positive influence into the world, seeding a better future for us all.
